Functional Fitness Exercise Class

What's so good about our Functional Fitness classes in Tadley?

As we get older, we tend to take smaller steps, bend down less, stretch up less, twist less and start thinking about slip-on shoes. A wide range of mobility, stretches and exercises designed to help you push doors, lift boxes, reach shelves, tie your shoe-laces, get out of comfy chairs more easily, and stay active as we age.

(There is now NO floor-work in this class. All the exercises have been changed to be standing, or sitting on a chair)

A class that's always growing

Our functional fitness classes in Pamber Heath, Tadley are unique. It's never quite the same class twice. Each week we work on a variety of different exercises focusing on different fitness goals and areas of the body

To keep it fun, interesting and fresh (as much as we can) we also tailor the exercises to who's in the room that week. Some people want more balance, others flexibility, others strength - so we mix it up so that there's always something for everybody

Injuries, niggles and operations

When we get in to our 50's (and beyond) we're always combatting the challenges of age. Whether you just overdid it in the garden at the weekend, or you're recovering from shoulder replacement operation, there are always options and alternatives that we can give you to help you keep fit, active and strong whilst taking into account any ailments, aches and limitations

How are the Functional Fitness Classes structured?

We keep it flexible and fluid (and fun!). But there's always a plan. So, each class will cover a little bit of everything. However, some weeks, we really focus in on one area a bit more - just to keep you on your toes (literally). The areas we cover are:

    Dorsal chain

Your back, lower back, glutes, hamstrings and calves (Oh! we do calves! Very important for balance, blood flow and flexibility.)

    Leg Strength

Having strong and flexible legs (and glutes!) helps prevent falls and makes life a whole lot more enjoyable. Being able to keep up with the grand-kids or just not get tired on a large flight of stairs. Leg strength is crucial. Strong glutes reduce lower back pain and even help you sleep better. So it's worth the work!

    Balance

Helping ensure we're co-ordinated, in control, maintaining good posture and ensuring we're mindful of our body position in space and time.

    Core

The core is what holds it all together. Decades of desk jobs or just sedentary lifestyle means our core 'lets go' and stops supporting us as well. We're not after a six pack - we're after resilience, structure and supporting us in our daily activities.

    Upper Body Strength

Lifting, placing on shelves, picking things up off the ground. And, if you do stumble or fall, having the arm strength to support yourself. As with core, we're not chasing aesthetic arms or bulging biceps - we're increasing our muscle mass for strength and responsiveness.
